Een weekendje uitwaaien en genieten op Texel
Wil je er echt even uit? Bijkomen en genieten van de mooie natuur die Nederland te bieden heeft? Dan is een weekendje Texel zeker een aanrader. Vrijdag middag reden we vanaf onze woonplaats Urk richting het andere eiland Texel voor een lang weekend met Hotel Greenside op de Koog op Texel.
Na ongeveer 2,5 uur via de afsluitdijk en de veerboot vanuit Den Helder bereikten we Texel. De veerboot ging redelijk snel omdat we vooraf al kaartjes hadden gekocht en de slagboom op basis van ons nummer bord onze auto erkende. In ongeveer 20 min brengt de veerboot je vanaf Den Helder op Texel waar we na 20 min rijden in checkten in ons hotel De dubbeldeks veerboot naar Texel vertrekt minimaal eenmaal per uur vanuit Den Helder. Plaats reservering voor de overtocht met de boot is niet mogelijk en ook niet nodig, maar u kunt wel van tevoren een e-ticket kopen. Bij verwachte grote drukte wordt door de inzet van een extra boot elk halfuur gevaren. Meestal tussen 12:00 en 18:00 in de weekenden en vakanties.
De Koog is een badplaats pur sang. Slechts één duinenrij markeert de scheidslijn tussen dorp en strand. Op de achtergrond klinkt altijd het ruisen van de zee. In de Dorpsstraat heerst jaarrond een gezellige vakantiesfeer. Overdag kunt u lekker winkelen; ’s avonds een drankje drinken op een terras. Het strand bij De Koog is te voet gemakkelijk te bereiken. Als u met de bus naar het strand gaat kunt u in De Koog vlakbij het strand uitstappen. Komt u met de auto dan is er een gratis parkeer gelegenheid bij het strand. Op Texel zijn de delen van het strand weergegeven door genummerde palen. Bij de bushalte in De Koog ligt het strand van Paal 20 het dichtste bij. De bewaakte strandgedeeltes bij De Koog liggen bij Paal 17, 19, 20 en 21. Hier vindt u ook de strandpaviljoens. Bij veel strandpaviljoens op Texel kunt u ook strandstoelen en ligbedden huren. De meeste restaurants en cafés in De Koog vindt u in de Dorpsstraat. Als u door de Dorpsstraat loopt ziet u overal terrasjes. In de avond kunt u in het dorp uitgaan in cafés en discotheken.
We lunchten tussen de middag bij Strandpaviljoen 20 in de Koog en vonden het een vermelding waard in deze blog niet zozeer om de uitstraling maar om de producten wie ze gebruiken alles vers bereid en verse sinaasappelsap wat je maar heel weinig nog tegenkomt en zeker niet bij een strandpaviljoen.
Voor een lang weekend Texel heb ik een aantal dingen geselecteerd die leuk zijn om te doen. De vuurtoren bijvoorbeeld is leuk om te bezoeken en te beklimmen, maar je kunt natuurlijk ook overal fietsen huren of eindeloos mooie wandelingen maken, skydiven op het eiland of een bezoek brengen aan de Texelse bierbrouwerij of breng een bezoek bij de zeehonden van Ecomare, een opvang voor zeehonden.
Verblijven:
Hotel Greenside beschikt over 59 Kamers en ademt één en al eilandsfeer. We kregen de Wellnes kamer met een grote Whirlpool waar je eerlijk met zijn tweeën onderuit gezakt tot rust kan komen of geniet van de Sun shower en krijg alvast wat kleur. De voor Texel, ‘parel van de Wadden’, zo typerende rust en ruimte vertalen zich prachtig in de intieme ambiance van het hotel. In de Wellness kunnen lichaam en geest zich optimaal ontspannen.
Naar Het strand Wat voor weer het ook is, als je op Texel bent ga je vast en zeker naar het strand. Of dit nou is om uit te waaien of om te zonnen, naar het strand op Texel is altijd leuk! Er zijn enorm veel leuke strandtenten we bezochten het strand bij de vuurtoren en het strand bij paal 20 en 17 welke beschikken over een strand paviljoen en verhuur van strandstoelen.
Lente en lammetjes knuffelen Denk je aan Texel, dan denk je natuurlijk aan lammetjes. Schattige wollige lammetjes, dartelend en springend in het weiland. Het liefst wil je ze aaien en knuffelen. Het kan op Schapenboerderij Texel. Begin je weekendje weg op Texel meteen met deze leuke activiteit.
De Vuurtoren Een onbeschutte duintop op het noordelijkste puntje van Texel, ingeklemd tussen de Noordzee en de Waddenzee. Daar staat de Texelse vuurtoren, met een aantal voormalige dienstwoningen ernaast. Hier kun je écht voelen wat windkracht zes betekent! Je komt de vuurtoren tegen in het logo van talloze Texelse bedrijven. De markante toren is echt een icoon voor het eiland. De vuurtoren is dagelijks geopend van 10:00 tot 17:00. Zondag avond tijdens de zonsondergang was het hek ook nog open dus konden we nog wat kiekjes maken tijdens zonsondergang.
Ecomare op Texel is een natuurmuseum, een zeehondenopvang, een zeeaquarium en een vogelopvang. Ecomare ligt midden in het Nationaal Park van Texel. Via Ecomare kun je ook het duinpark bezoeken. Je kunt er uren rondstruinen en van alles te weten komen over de natuur van de wadden en de Noordzee. Nadat je alles hebt bezocht en gedaan hebt kun je heerlijk uitblazen in het restaurant.
Texelse bierbrouwerij is de bekendste brouwerij van het eiland. Het beroemde Skuumkoppe komt hier vandaan. Wie nieuwsgierig is hoe de bijzondere bieren van Texels worden gebrouwen, kan dit ontdekken tijdens een rondleiding door de brouwerij. Ik was helemaal vergeten om een biertje op het eiland te kopen voor thuis, gelukkig kon ik op de veerboot nog een pakket kopen met verschillende biertjes.
Den Hoorn ligt in het zuiden van Texel. Het kenmerkt zich door de knusse straatjes. Je krijgt het gevoel alsof je even terug in de tijd gaat. Vanaf het Lagewegje heb je een prachtig uitzicht op het witte kerkje van Den Hoorn. Vooral met zonsondergang kan het echt magisch zijn.
Molen het Noorden Bij inpoldering van de noordoostelijke gebieden van Texel bleek in 1878 een grote molen nodig om het gebied te bemalen. Dat is de poldermolen Het Noorden geworden. Hij is genoemd naar de gelijknamige polder die hij droogmaalt. De molen ligt ten noorden van het dorp Oosterend. Helaas waren ze de molen tijdens ons bezoek aan het renoveren.
Oudeschild is een plaats in het oosten van Texel en staat vooral bekend om de haven, waar zowel recreatievaartuigen als vissersschepen een ligplaats hebben. Ook het juttersmuseum Kaap Skil is in het dorp gevestigd. Je kunt er heerlijk vis eten in de haven. Ook kan je met een van de vissersboten mee om op garnalen te vissen of ga op bezoek bij de zeehonden
Wadlopen is een sportieve belevenis in de natuur van de Waddenzee. Tijdens een waddentocht ga je langs het natuurgebied De Schorren het waddengebied in. De tocht is ongeveer 10 kilometer lang en duurt 3 uur.
Paardrijden Heerlijk bij ondergaande zon over het strand galopperen of een natuurgebied ontdekken. Texel biedt veel mogelijkheden voor paardrijders. Er zijn prachtige ruiterpaden. Boek bij manege Elszenhof een bos- of strandrit.
Fotoplekjes
In duingebied Bollekamer houden Schotse Hooglanders de begroeiing laag. Ze reageren heel ontspannen op mensen. Ze kijken vaak even op en grazen dan snel weer verder. Het blijven wel wilde dieren, dus houdt afstand.
Strand bij Paal 20 Een prachtige plek voor zonsondergang. Ligt in het midden van de kust bij Paal 20. Door de strandhuisjes geeft het een geweldig plaatje.
Het symbool van Texel is de vuurtoren, op de noordpunt van het eiland. De robuustheid, de rode kleur en de prachtige locatie, maken het plaatje echt prachtig. Tip: neem wat afstand, zodat je de zee en het strand ook in beeld krijgt.

Get a breath of fresh air and enjoy on the Island of Texel
Do you really want to get out? Want to relax and enjoy the beautiful nature that the Netherlands has to offer? Then a weekend in Texel is definitely recommended. Friday afternoon we drove from our home town of Urk to the other island of Texel for a long weekend with Hotel Greenside on the Koog on Texel. After about 2.5 hours via the Afsluitdijk and the ferry from Den Helder, we reached Texel. The ferry went reasonably fast because we had already purchased tickets in advance and the barrier recognized our car based on our number plate. In about 20 minutes the ferry takes you from Den Helder to Texel where we checked in at our hotel after a 20-minute drive. The double-deck ferry to Texel leaves at least once an hour from Den Helder. It is neither possible nor necessary to reserve a place for the ferry , but you can purchase an e-ticket in advance. In the event of expected large crowds, the deployment of an extra boat is used every half hour. Usually between 12:00 and 18:00 on weekends and holidays.
De Koog is a lovely seaside resort village. Only one row of dunes marks the dividing line between the village and the beach. The sound of the sea always sounds in the background. There is a cozy holiday atmosphere in the Dorpsstraat. You can go shopping during the day; get a drink on a terrace in the evening. The beach at De Koog is easily reached on foot. If you go to the beach by bus you can get off in De Koog near the beach. If you come by car there is a free parking space at the beach. The parts of the beach on Texel are represented by numbered posts. The beach of Paal 20 is closest to the bus stop in De Koog. The guarded beach areas at De Koog are at Paal 17, 19, 20 and 21. Here you will also find the beach pavilions. At many beach pavilions on Texel, you can also rent beach chairs and sun beds. Most restaurants and cafés in De Koog can be found in the Dorpsstraat. If you walk through the Dorpsstraat you will see terraces everywhere. In the evening you can go out in the village in cafes and discos. We had lunch at Strandpaviljoen 20 in de Koog in the afternoon and found it worth mentioning in this blog not so much for the look and atmosphere but for the products they use, everything freshly prepared and fresh orange juice that you rarely come across and certainly not at a beach pavilion.
For a long weekend in Texel, I have selected a number of things that are fun to do. The lighthouse, for example, is nice to visit and climb, but you can, of course, rent bicycles everywhere or take endless beautiful walks, skydive on the island or visit the Texel beer brewery or visit the seals of Ecomare, a shelter for seals.
Stay:
Hotel Greenside has 59 rooms and breathes an island atmosphere. We got the Wellness room with a large Whirlpool where you can honestly relax with two people or enjoy the Sun shower and get some color. To the beach Whatever the weather, if you are on Texel you will definitely go to the beach. Whether this is for a breath of fresh air or for sunbathing, going to the beach on Texel is always fun! There are a lot of nice beach tents we visited the beach at the lighthouse and the beach at posts 20 and 17 which have a beach pavilion and rental of beach chairs.
Spring and cuddling lambs When you think of Texel, you naturally think of lambs. Cute woolly lambs, frolicking and jumping in the meadow. You prefer to stroke and hug them. It is possible at Texel Sheep Farm. Start your weekend away on Texel immediately with this fun activity.
The Lighthouse An unprotected dune top on the northernmost tip of Texel, sandwiched between the North Sea and the Wadden Sea. There is the Texel lighthouse, with a number of former service homes next to it. Here you can really feel what wind force six means! You come across the lighthouse in the logo of countless Texel companies. The striking tower is really an icon for the island. The lighthouse is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday evening during the sunset the gate was also open so we could take some snaps during sunset.
Ecomare on Texel is a nature museum, a seal sanctuary, a sea aquarium, and a bird sanctuary. Ecomare is located in the middle of the Texel National Park. You can also visit the dune park via Ecomare. You can wander around for hours and learn all about the nature of the Wadden Sea and the North Sea. After you have visited and done everything you can relax in the restaurant.
Texel beer brewery is the most famous brewery on the island. The famous Skuumkoppe comes from here. Anyone who is curious about how Texel's special beers are brewed can discover this during a tour of the brewery. I had completely forgotten to buy a beer on the island for home, luckily I could buy a package with different beers on the ferry.
Den Hoorn is located in the south of Texel. It is characterized by cozy streets. You get the feeling that you are going back in time. From the Lagewegje you have a beautiful view of the white church of Den Hoorn. Especially at sunset, it can be really magical.
Molen het Noorden In 1878 when the north-eastern areas of Texel were reclaimed, a large mill was needed to drain the area. That has become the polder mill Het Noorden. It is named after the polder of the same name that it dries up. The mill is located north of the village of Oosterend. Unfortunately, they were renovating the mill during our visit.
Oudeschild is a place in the east of Texel and is mainly known for the harbor, where both recreational vessels and fishing boats have a berth. The Cape Skil burlap museum is also located in the village. You can eat delicious fish in the harbor. You can also go with one of the fishing boats to fish for shrimp or visit the seals
Wadlopen is a sporting experience in the nature of the Wadden Sea. During a Wadden tour, you will enter the Wadden region along the De Schorren nature reserve. The tour is approximately 10 kilometers long and takes 3 hours.
Horseback riding galloping on the beach in the setting sun or discovering a nature reserve. Texel offers many opportunities for horse riders. There are beautiful bridleways. Book a forest or beach ride at the Elszenhof stables.
Photo spots the Bollekamer dune area, Scottish Highlanders keep the vegetation low. They respond very relaxed to people. They often look up for a moment and then quickly graze on. The symbol of Texel is the lighthouse, on the northern tip of the island. The robustness, the red color, and the beautiful location make the picture really beautiful.
