Tijdens de herfstvakantie waren we in Drenthe in het gezellige plaatsje Exloo op het resort PUUR Exloo. Het dorpje en Puur Exloo liggen aan de rand van een Unesco natuurgebied en te midden van oeroude bossen, heide, hunebedden, en waar de schaapsherder nog iedere morgen met zijn schaapskudde vanuit het dorp de heide optrekt.
Vrijdagmiddag checkten we in in onze villa op het park PUUR Exloo door middel van onze reserveringscode in te toetsen in een cijferslot, dus geen gedoe of wachttijden bij de receptie en de bedden waren al opgemaakt. De villa is uitgerust met een sauna en sun shower. De vakantievilla beschikt verder over een bedstee en drie slaapkamers. De keuken is voorzien van alle gemakken, zoals een Espressoapparaat en vaatwasser. Naast de keuken bevindt zich de living, deze heeft een heerlijke zithoek om uit te rusten. Door de grote, hoge ramen valt veel licht naar binnen en heb je een prachtig uitzicht naar buiten. Op het resort bevinden zich villa`s geschikt voor 6 tot 10 personen allen ruim opgezet op het park in dezelfde stijl.
Familieresort PUUR Exloo bevindt zich in het hart van Drenthe. Goed bereikbaar vanuit alle windstreken. De villa's in Drenthe zijn voorzien van luxe en Wellness. Op nog geen 500 meter afstand vindt u een prachtige golfbaan en rondom het park van 80 hectare kan je geweldig fietsen en wandelen. Dag drukte en hectiek hallo rust en ruimte, het park is gebouwd in de stijl van de Drentse boerderijen waardoor het fraai integreert in het fraaie landgoed Hunzebergen.
Omringd door oneindige heidevelden, dichte bossen en uitgestrekte veengebieden en op de flank van het unieke historische natuurgebied de Hondsrug geniet u vanaf het resort van weergaloze vergezichten en fietst of loopt u zo de prachtige Drentse natuur in. Een gebied dat dateert van de vroege IJstijd en sinds 2013 de bijzondere status van UNESCO Global Geopark heeft. Hiermee staat de Hondsrug als een van de weinige plekken in Nederland op de prestigieuze werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO en behoort het tot de selecte groep van 120 geoparken in de wereld.
In de herfstvakantie is het vaak nog mooi weer en ideaal om er op uit te trekken. Voordat we vrijdag avond langs de supermarkt reden liepen we nog een flink stuk door het bos dichtbij het park waar we onze eerste hunebedden zagen. Erna reden we naar de supermarkt voor wat inkopen voor het weekend, overigens kan je bij de plaatselijke Spar ook je boodschappen bestellen en laten bezorgen of door de plaatselijke bakker verse broodjes bestellen online welke de andere morgen bezorgd worden rond half negen.
Naast de vakantievilla’s ligt het Fletcher hotel De Hunzebergen, hier kunt u o.a. dineren en lunchen. Op het park worden ook verschillende faciliteiten aangeboden zoals een midgetgolfbaan, bowlingbaan, tennisbaan, buitenzwembad en fietsverhuur. Wilt u een baan huren of gaan toeren met de fiets? Reserveren kunt u bij de receptie van het hotel. Het buitenzwembad, binnenzwembad, Wellness en de fitness zijn vrij te gebruiken wanneer je op Familieresort PUUR Exloo verblijft.
Wat te doen:
Op rij afstand van het resort lig de stad Groningen of wat dichterbij Emmen. We besloten de zaterdag door te brengen in de mooie stad Groningen op 40 min rijden en onderweg door het Drentse landschap stopten we nog verschillende keren bij Windmolens, heide en oeroude bossen.
Groningen is een leuke stad met veel restaurantjes welke me doen denken aan Utrecht ook een stad met veel studenten en dit zie je vaak terug in de restaurantjes in de stad. Fietsen, volle terrassen, met een gemiddelde leeftijd van 36 jaar is het historische Groningen de jongste stad van Nederland. Je voelt de energie van de stad wanneer je vanaf de Martinitoren over de daken uitkijkt of door de eeuwenoude straten loopt. Dit is waar oases van rust hand in hand gaan met levendige studentenspots en gezellige marktpleinen. We parkeren in het centrum bij de Vismarkt en lopen in een paar minuten het bruisende centrum binnen.
Marktlui roepen hun verkoopleuzen, terwijl fietsers hun weg vinden tussen de voetgangers welkom in Groningen.
Molen de Juffer Drenthe Op 20 min rijden vanaf Puur Exloo ligt Molen de Juffer net buiten het dorp Gasselternijveen, bij de beek van de Hunze. Vanaf de stelling van de molen hebt u een prachtig uitzicht over het herstelde beekgebied van de 'Oude Weer', aangelegd in 2014. De molenaars leiden u graag rond op zaterdag en er is pannenkoekenmeel te koop. De opbrengst van deze verkoop is voor het behoud van de molen.
Molen de Wachter op 30 min rijden vanaf Puur Exloo ligt molen de Wachter met museum naastgelegen. Ruim 180 vrijwilligers zorgen er voor dat Museum De Wachter en alles wat daarbij hoort wordt onderhouden en gerund. Zij zorgen ervoor dat alles beweegt en in werking is te zien. Het is een museum waar de molen een onderdeel van is. Maar het zou ook zomaar stoommuseum, ambachtenmuseum of verzamelmuseum kunnen heten.
Wandelen en beklim De Brandtoren De Poolshoogte is een heuvel met uitkijktoren aan de Boswachter Meelkerlaan in boswachterij Odoorn. Beklim zelf de brandtoren! En geniet van een fantastisch uitzicht over de wijde omgeving. Geniet na de klim van een kop koffie of lunch op het terras van het restaurant
Vestingstadje Bourtange op 30 min rijden vanaf Puur Exloo ligt het vestingstadje Bourtange. Vlakbij de Duitse grens, in het prachtige Westerwolde (Zuidoost Groningen), ligt de Vesting Bourtange. Een uniek historisch verdedigingswerk dat zijn gelijke niet kent. Heden en verleden gaan perfect samen in deze kleine, sfeervolle vestingstad. Toen we in de herfstvakantie Bourtange bezochten was het Keltische feest Samhain in volle gang. Samhain is een van de oudste feesten, het wordt al duizenden jaren gevierd. Voor de Kelten was dit ook het begin van het nieuwe jaar

Orvelte op 25 min van Puur Exloo ligt het museumdorp Orvelte. In het levendige monumentendorp Orvelte - waar mensen gewoon wonen en werken - beleeft u de geschiedenis aan den lijve. Ga mee op reis en beleef Orvelte zelf! In Drenthe, staan prachtige, rietgedekte Saksische boerderijen en andere rustieke gebouwen. Mooi om langs te wandelen, maar nog leuker om ook eens van binnen te bekijken. Bij een aantal van de boerderijen bent u van harte welkom!
Kamp Westerbork op 30 min van Puur Exloo ligt het voormalig concentratiekamp Westerbork. De geschiedenis van kamp Westerbork is vooral bekend vanwege de jaren 1942-1945. Het kamp werd echter al in 1939 gebouwd als vluchtelingenkamp. Tot de afbraak in 1971 is het kamp nagenoeg voortdurend in gebruik geweest.
Hunebedcentrum Borger op 15 min rijden vanaf Puur Exloo bevindt zich Borger de hunebedhoofdstad van Nederland met het prachtige Hunebedcentrum! Een bijzonder museum in een bijzonder gebouw. Het startpunt van een onvergetelijke reis naar de prehistorie. Wat zijn hunebedden eigenlijk? Zo’n 150.000 jaar geleden tijdens de voorlaatste IJstijd werden megalieten (grote zwerfkeien) vanuit Scandinavië meegevoerd. Zo’n 5000 jaar geleden vestigden zich de eerste boeren in Drenthe. Dit zogenaamde Trechterbekervolk hebben de enorme keien gebruikt om collectieve grafkamers te bouwen. Ze groeven waarschijnlijk een diepe kuil waarin ze de staande stenen rechtop zetten. Daarna werd met de hulp van rollende boomstammen de deksteen op zijn plaats gelegd. Daarna werd het zand onder de deksteen weer weggegraven zodat de vorm van het hunebed zoals die nog altijd zichtbaar is, ontstond. Onder het hunebed werden tot wel veertig overledenen, samen met potten, sieraden, gereedschappen en wapens begraven. Opgravingen hebben ons veel over dit oeroude volk geleerd.
Ontdek Wildlands op 15 min vanaf Puur Exloo ligt Wildlands Emmen. WILDLANDS bestaat uit drie werelddelen: Nortica Loop in deze ijskoude wereld tussen de pinguïns en sta neus aan neus met ijsberen. Serenga Stap in de wereld van de zinderende hitte. Hier loop je tussen de moeraswallabies en nandoes in het nieuwe doorloopgebied en bekijk je de leeuwen en hun spelende welpen op de Leeuwenberg. Ga vervolgens op safari met een truck over de savanne en ontmoet giraffes, zebra's, gnoes, struisvogels en neushoorns. Jungola In deze jungle spot je tientallen tropische vogels, ringstaartmaki's, slingerapen en gibbons. Varend over de Rimbula River kom je langs een olifantenkudde.
Autumn weekend Drenthe, Rest, Nature, and Space
During the autumn holidays, we were in Drenthe in the pleasant town of Exloo at the Puur Exloo resort. The village and Puur Exloo lie on the edge of a Unesco nature reserve and amidst ancient forests, heathland, hunebeds, and where the shepherd still pulls the heath from the village every morning with his herd of sheep.
Friday afternoon we checked in at our villa on the park Puur Exloo by entering our code in a combination lock, so no hassle or waiting times at the reception and the beds were already made up. The villa is equipped with a sauna and Sun shower. The holiday villa also has a boxbed and three bedrooms. The kitchen is equipped with all conveniences, such as an Espresso machine and dishwasher. Next to the kitchen is the living room, it has a lovely sitting area to get out to rest. A lot of light enters through the large, high windows and you have a beautiful view outside. The villa can accommodate 8 people. At the resort, there are villas for 6 to 10 people, all spaciously set up in the park.

Surrounded by endless heaths, dense forests and vast peat bogs and on the flank of the unique historic nature reserve the Hondsrug. An area that dates back to the early Ice Age and since 2013 has the special status of UNESCO Global Geopark. This makes the Hondsrug one of the few places in the Netherlands on the prestigious World Heritage List of UNESCO and it belongs to the select group of 120 geoparks in the world.
In the autumn holidays, it is often still nice weather and ideal to go out. Before we drove past the supermarket on Friday evening, we walked quite a distance through the forest near the park where we saw our first Hunebeds. Afterward, we drove to the supermarket for some shopping for the weekend, by the way, you can also have your groceries delivered at the local Spar supermarkt or order fresh bread online from the local baker which will be delivered the next morning around half-past eight.
In addition to the holiday villas, the Fletcher hotel De Hunzebergen lights up, where you can enjoy dinner and lunch, among other things. The park also offers various facilities such as a mini-golf course, bowling alley, tennis court, outdoor swimming pool, and bicycle rental. Reservations can be made at the hotel reception. What to do:
The city of Groningen or a little closer ,Emmen are within driving distance of the resort. We decided to spend the Saturday in the beautiful city of Groningen and on the way through the Drenthe landscape we stopped several times at Windmills, heathland, and ancient forests.
Groningen is a nice city with many restaurants that remind me of Utrecht, also a city with many students and you often see this in the restaurants and city vibes. Cycling, full terraces, with an average age of 36 years, historic Groningen is the youngest city in the Netherlands. You feel the energy of the city when you look over the rooftops from the Martini tower or walk through the ancient streets. This is where an oasis of peace goes hand in hand with lively student spots and pleasant market squares. We park in the center at the Vismarkt and walk in a few minutes to the center. Market people call their sales slogans, while cyclists find their way among the pedestrians welcomes to Groningen.
Molen de Juffer Drenthe A 20-minute drive from Puur Exloo, Molen de Juffer is located just outside the village of Gasselternijveen, by the stream of the Hunze. From the position of the mill, you have a beautiful view over the restored stream area of the 'Old Weather', built-in 2014. The millers are happy to show you around and there is pancake flour for sale. The proceeds from this sale are for the preservation of the mill.
De Wachter windmill 30 minutes' drive from Puur Exloo in the Wachter windmill with the adjacent museum. More than 180 volunteers ensure that Museum De Wachter and everything that goes with it is maintained and run. They make sure that everything is moving and can be seen in operation. It is a museum of which the mill is a part. But it could also be called a steam museum, a craft museum or a collection museum.
Walking and climbing De Brandtoren De Poolshoogte is a hill with a watchtower on Boswachter Meelkerlaan in Odoorn forestry. Climb the fire tower yourself! And enjoy a fantastic view of the surrounding area. After the climb, enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch on the restaurant terrace
The fortress town of Bourtange, a 30-minute drive from Puur Exloo, is the fortified town of Bourtange. Near the German border, in the beautiful Westerwolde ( Southeast Groningen), lies the Fortress Bourtange. A unique historical defense work that has no equal. Past and present go together perfectly in this small, atmospheric fortified city. When we visited Bourtange during the autumn holidays, the Celtic party Samhain was in full swing. Orvelte, 25 minutes from Puur Exloo, is the museum village of Orvelte. In the lively monument village of Orvelte - where people just live and work - you will experience history for yourself. In Drenthe, there are beautiful, thatched Saxon farmhouses and other rustic buildings. Nice to walk by, but even nicer to take a look inside. You are very welcome at several farms!
Westerbork camp 30 minutes from Puur Exloo is the former Westerbork concentration camp. The history of camp Westerbork is mainly known for the years 1942-1945. However, the camp was already built-in in 1939 as a refugee camp. Until the demolition in 1971 the camp was used almost constantly.
Hunebedcentrum Borger, 15 minutes drive from Puur Exloo, Borger is the hunebed capital of the Netherlands with the beautiful Hunebedcentrum! A special museum in a special building. The starting point of an unforgettable journey to prehistory. What are hunebeds? Some 150,000 years ago during the penultimate Ice Age, megaliths (large boulders) were brought from Scandinavia. About 5000 years ago the first farmers settled in Drenthe. This so-called Funnel Cup people have used the enormous boulders to build collective burial chambers. They probably dug a deep hole in which they put the standing stones upright. Then with the help of rolling tree trunks, the capstone was placed in place. Then the sand under the capstone was dug away again so that the shape of the dolmen as it is still visible, emerged. Up to forty people were buried under the dolmen, along with pots, jewelry, tools, and weapons. Excavations have taught us a lot about these ancient people.
Discover Wildlands 15 minutes from Puur Exloo is Wildlands Emmen. WILDLANDS consists of three continents: Nortica In this icy cold world, walk between penguins and stand nose to nose with polar bears. Serenga Step into the world of the sweltering heat. Here you walk among the swamp wallabies and rheas in the new walk-through area and view the lions and their playing cubs on the Leeuwenberg. Then go on a safari on a truck across the savannah and meet giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, ostriches, and rhinos. Jungola In this jungle you spot dozens of tropical birds, ring-tailed lemurs, spider monkeys, and gibbons. Sailing along the Rimbula River you will pass an elephant herd.
