With more than 4,200 square miles (10,878 sq km) of natural beauty, Jasper National Park has enough to see and do that you could spend several weeks of vacation attempting to try it all. For those who are on a more limited timeframe, we’ve compiled a three-day itinerary that will give a taste of Jasper National Park’s most popular spots while still leaving you wanting more. Jasper in the summertime offers endless adventures for all levels. With trails that wind through beautiful forests up Rocky Mountain peaks, pristine lakes surrounded by gorgeous vistas, and all the comforts of home, Jasper is the base of your summer adventure
Day 1 Visit Lac Beauvert, where you can rent kayaks, canoes, clipper boats, paddleboards, and paddleboats throughout the summer from the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Boathouse. If the sun is out, this natural, glacier-fed lake’s emerald green color shines, making for a phenomenal place to admire the views. Pause and ponder the fact that the water you’re floating on came via a fascinating underground cave system (known as the Maligne Karst, it’s the longest subterranean drainage system in Canada) that filtered out all the glacier sediment, allowing for the crystal clear waters. Bike rentals are also available if you’d prefer to observe the lake from the trail that encircles it. You also can spend some time at the spa and pool of the hotel looking out over the lake.
After your canoe adventure, you can visit Lake Edith and Lake Annette just a 10 min drive from Lac Beauvert here you have some beautiful hikes and there are some beaches around for taking a swim or an afternoon nap. Situated across the Athabasca River and just north of downtown Jasper, lakes Annette and Edith are great spots for a leisurely jaunt or a full-fledged adventure. Travelers can spend a day picnicking and grilling, relaxing in the park's signature red Adirondack chairs, and hiking the various trails. Lake Annette Beach is quite simply one of the most spectacular beach settings one can find. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains and close to the Town of Jasper, the beach itself is sandy with a large grassy area and picnic tables. The lake is fed glacially and is referred to as a kettle (a depression created by a large piece of the glacier being pressed into the earth by the material above it and melting with the receding glacier).
The beach and lake are easy to access. Lake Edith, which hosts smaller beaches, offers more shade and is only one parking lot away or a short walk.
An afternoon strolling through the cozy streets of Jasper town go for some shopping and finish your day in the many restaurants or cafes around.
Evening See Jasper from a whole new perspective when the Jasper SkyTram whisks you up Whistler’s Mountain to an elevation of 2,277 meters for stunning vistas over six mountain ranges, glacially fed lakes, rivers, and of course the town below. On a clear day, you can even see the white pyramid of Mount Robson in nearby British Columbia. This is the longest and highest guided aerial tramway in Canada, lasting seven minutes, during which a flight attendant will point out sights and answer questions. The upper station features interpretive exhibits that explain the high alpine environment and a hiking trail that leads to the summit of the mountain.
Day 2 You’ll want to get up early to enjoy one of Jasper National Park’s most breathtaking beauties—Maligne Lake. The Maligne Lake Premium Cruise begins its first tour at 9:30 AM, and it’s during this morning calm that you can best appreciate the scenery. Discover Spirit Island (accessible only by boat) and enjoy some of the most beautiful vistas in the Rockies.
After your trip to the lake lunch in the restaurant and look out over the lake. On your way back to Jasper take a stop at Medicine Lake for some photos and go for a short hike at Maligne Canyon. Maligne Canyon is the deepest canyon in Jasper National Park with a depth of more than 50m at one point of the canyon.
There are 6 bridges built at various points that allow visitors to walk (or hike) to different views of the canyon and waterfall. If you are not a hiker and just want a quick view, walk to the First or Second Bridge. The Third Bridge is the highest point in the canyon with a nice view of the waterfalls. The Sixth Bridge is the furthest point at Maligne Canyon and it’s about 4km one way to access the Sixth bridge.
Afternoon Go for a canoe trip to Pyramid lake or just relax at the lakeshore and visit the famous Pyramid Island.
Day 3 After your breakfast go for a ride to the famous Icefielparkway and visit Horseshoe lake be aware the hike to the lake can be a little bit slippery. Horseshoe lake is one of the deepest lakes in Jasper. Cliff Edges Overlooking Water At The End Of This Short Hike Is Very nice. Continue your trip to Athabasca Falls, At 23 m (75.5 ft) in height, Athabasca Falls may not be the tallest waterfall in the Canadian Rockies but it is one of the most powerful, due to the sheer volume of water flowing into the gorge from the Athabasca River, fed by the massive Columbia Icefield. There are several platforms and walkways where you can safely view and photograph the falls. Located 30 km (19 mi) south of the town of Jasper, it is easily accessed from the Icefields Parkway using Highway 93A. Plenty of free parking and an easy stroll to the falls.
Continue your trip to Sunwapta Falls, Sunwapta Falls is a pair of waterfalls of the Sunwapta River located 56km south of Jasper (also 57km from Edith Cavell). There are upper falls and lower falls at Sunwapta Falls. Is the Sunwapta Falls better than Athabasca Falls? It’s hard to say because both waterfalls are beautiful and powerful, so it’s better to just visit both! Enjoy the falls and the tiny island of trees just before the falls.
Walk across the footbridge for a better view of the falls and appreciate the might of the flowing water as it eats away the limestone rocks.
Hike along the trail till the lower falls, enjoying the scenery and seeing the river losing its turbulence as flowing out into a wide valley. Afternoon drive back to Jasper or visit first the Colombia Icefield, we thought it was far overpriced so we only stop alongside the road to take some pics. The Columbia Icefield Skywalk is a fairly new attraction in the Columbia Icefields. It starts at the Glacier Discovery Centre and involves a short bus ride to the actual Glacier Skywalk platform. The newly installed interpretive center and glass-bottomed Skywalk overlook the Sunwapta Valley

Ow to go:
We did a self-drive tour from Vancouver Island all the way to the Canadian Rockies but you need at least 3 weeks. An alternative is to fly to Calgary and you have lots more time in the Rockies so you can drive to Jasper at your own tempo and stay a couple of days in Jasper and on the way back to Banff or Canmore you can read more about those places in my other blog posts
Een driedaagse reis naar Jasper National Park Canada
Met meer dan 10.000 km2 aan natuurlijke schoonheid, heeft Jasper National Park genoeg om te zien en te doen. Je zou hier makkelijk meerdere weken kunnen besteden. Voor degenen die hier maar een korte peridode kunnen verblijven, hebben we een driedaagse route samengesteld. In de zomer biedt Jasper national park eindeloze avonturen op alle niveaus. Met paden door de prachtige bossen langs meren up naar de Rocky Mountain pieken, ongerepte meren omringd door prachtige vergezichten, en al het comfort van thuis, Jasper is de basis voor het zomer avontuur
Dag 1 We starten onze dag met een bezoek aan Lac Beauvert , een prachtig meer waar je kajaks, kano`s, waterfietsen kan huren bij het hotel Fairmont Jasper gedurende de zomer. Als de zon schijnt, verandert het meer in een smaragdgroene kleur, waardoor het een fenomenale plek is om te genieten van het uitzicht.
Het hotel heeft ook een prachtig zwembad en spa uitkijkend over het meer met een prachtige backdrop van de Rokie Mountains. Het zwembad en spa kan je bezoeken als dag bezoeker. Na het kano avontuur is het tijd voor een bezoek aan Lake Edith en Lake Annette op slechts 10 minuten rijden van Lac Beauvert hier je hebt een aantal prachtige wandelingen en er zijn een aantal stranden rond het meer voor het nemen van een duik of een middagdutje.
Lake Annette Beach is een van de mooiste stranden in de omgeving, het strand zelf is zanderig met een groot grasveld en picknick tafels. Het strand en het meer zijn gemakkelijk te bereiken. Lake Edith, dat kleinere stranden herbergt, biedt meer schaduw en is slechts een parkeerplaats verwijderd of een korte wandeling.
Aan het eind van de middag rijden we terug naar Jasper en slenteren we door de gezellige straten van Jasper voor wat boodschappen en eindig je dag in de vele restaurants in de buurt.
Aan het eind van de dag gaan we voor een ritje met de Jasper Skytram Jasper zie je hier van een geheel nieuw perspectief wanneer de Jasper SkyTram u omhoog brengt naar Whistler Mountain op een hoogte van 2.277 meter . Geniet van de vergezichten over de bergen en meren van de omgeving.
Dag 2 Vandaag staan we vroeg op om te genieten van één van Jasper National Park meest adembenemende schoonheden Maligne Lake.De Maligne Lake Premium Cruise begint de eerste tour om 09:30, en het is tijdens de ochtend nog rustig dat je kunt genieten van het landschap zonder overlopen te worden. Ontdek Spirit Island (toegankelijk alleen per boot of met Kayak) en geniet van een aantal van de meest prachtige vergezichten in de Rockies.
Na uw trip naar Spirit Island over het meer lunchen we in het restaurant en kijken uit over het meer wat een mooi begin van de dag. Op de weg terug naar Jasper nemen we een korte stop bij Medicine Lake voor een aantal foto's en gaan voor een korte wandeling verder naar Maligne Canyon.
Maligne Canyon is de diepste kloof in het nationaal park Jasper met een diepte van meer dan 50 meter op één punt van de kloof. Er zijn 6 bruggen gebouwd op verschillende punten die de mogelijkheid bieden bezoekers te wandelen naar de verschillende uitkijkpunten van de Kanyon en de waterval. Heb je geen zin in lange wandelingen loop dan gelijk naar de eerste en tweede brug. De Derde Brug is het hoogste punt in de kloof met een mooi uitzicht op de watervallen. De Zesde brug is het verste punt van Maligne Kanyon en het is ongeveer 4 km lopen.
Aan het eind van de dag gaan we voor een kano trip naar Pyramid lake om een stukje over het meer te varen of gewoon ontspannen aan de oever van het meer en breng een bezoek aan de beroemde Piramide Island waar we genieten van de zonsondergang
Dag 3
Na heet ontbijt gaan voor een rit over de beroemde Icefielparkway en bezoeken we als eerste Horseshoe lake de wandeling naar het uikijkpunt is 10 min maar kan een beetje slipperig zijn. Horseshoe Lake is een van de diepste meren in Jasper. Cliff Edges kijken uit over het water met een prachtige backdrop van de Rockie Mountains.
We vervolgen onze reis naar Athabasca Falls, op 23 m (75,5 ft) hoogte, Athabasca Falls is niet de hoogste waterval in de Canadese Rockies, maar wel een van de meest krachtige, te wijten aan de enorme hoeveelheid water stroomt in de kloof van de Athabasca- rivier, gevoed door het enorme Columbia Icefield. Er zijn verschillende platforms en wandelpaden. Gelegen op 30 km (19 mijl) ten zuiden van de stad vanJasper, is het gemakkelijk bereikbaar vanaf de Icefields Parkway .
Vervolg uw reis naar Sunwapta Falls, Sunwapta Falls 56 km ten zuiden van Jasper Er zijn hoge watervallen en lagere watervallen bij Sunwapta Falls.
Is de Sunwapta Falls mooier dan Athabasca Falls? Het is moeilijk te zeggen,we vonden ze allebei wel gaaf al is Sunwapta door het eiland wat fotogenieker. Geniet van de watervallen en het kleine eiland van bomen vlak voor de watervallen.
Loop over de loopbrug voor een beter zicht.
Aan het eind van de middag rijden we terug naar Jasper of bezoek eerst de Colombia Icefield, wij vonden dit veel te duur, zodat we alleen stoppen langs de weg voor wat foto’s.van de Gletsjer het is een 10 min verder rijden vanaf Sunwapta Falls. De Columbia Icefield Skywalk is een vrij nieuwe attractie in de Columbia Icefields. Het begint bij de Glacier Discovery Center en houdt een korte bus rit naar de werkelijke Glacier Skywalk platform. Het nieuw geïnstalleerde interpretatieve centrum en de Skywalk met glazen bodem kijken uit over de Sunwapta- vallei.
Waar te verblijven :
Een gunstige locatie en gratis ontbijt maken het Mount Robson Inn een voorkeur accommodatie keuze in Jasper Canada. De ideale locatie van het hotel, aan de zuidkant van de hoofdstraat van Jasper, biedt een rustiger omgeving en de nabijheid om naar het centrum te lopen terwijl u geniet van het omliggende uitzicht op de bergen. Vanaf hier kunt u bereiken alle van de hoogtepunten in slechts een paar minuten. The Mount Robson Inn ligt temidden van prachtige bergen van Jaspers’ Main straat en is slechts een paar minuten lopen naar het centrum. Hoe te gaan:
We hebben een eigen roadtrip gedaan van Vancouver Island tot hij Canadian Rockies, maar je moet ten minste 3 weken hier voor uit trekken. Een alternatief is om te vliegen naar Calgary en je hebt veel meer tijd in de Rockies, zodat je op uw eigen tempo de Rockies kan ontdekken en blijf een paar van dagen in Jasper en op de terugweg in Banff of Canmore lees meer in mijn vorige blog post over Lake Louise en Canmore
